Disney Descendants - Tween Halloween Costume Trend

What is the current tween trend? Well it appears to be Disney's Descendants.

Until two weeks ago I had no idea what Descendants was until my friends daughter said her favorite song was from so and so from Descendants. I was like from who? where? what?

Like Hanna Montana, Frozen and Monster High, Descendants is the new it show / product to capture the tween market and with a new show / movie coming out October 3rd, Punk, Preppy, Proper Night is poised to be on the Halloween costume wish list for many girls this year.

So who or what are the Descendants?

The Descendants are the sons and daughters of the famous Disney Princesses characters, including Audrey daughter of Sleeping Beauty, Mal daughter of Maleficent, Evie daughter of the Evil Queen, Ben son of Belle & Beast, Carlos son of Cruella De Vil and there are more.

Each character has some of the traits of their parents but sometimes do things differently. It seems to be very well put together and has been quite successful.

Right now Disney's Descendants costumes in high demand and you must pre-order them if you want them. We suggest doing this prior to the Oct. 3rd show.

Only had a handful of Disney Descendants costume items at the time of this post including a Evie T-Shirt, Mal wig and socks! However, they may get more items in.

 After hitting the main Costume Stores and Disney we were starting to wonder are there any Disney Descendant costumes out there?

The answer is Yes, but it is getting harder to find them.

We are finding pretty much all of the Disney Decendants Costumes here on Ebay including Mal, Evie (the two most popular costumes) and the others. Ebay had the largest selection of anyone but you will pay more for the costumes.

Prices varied but the selection was pretty good.

As with any tween fad they come on strong and are the must have items for a season or two. If the series maintains it's popularity it could last a few year, the concept is unique but with any tv show involving real actors you grow up and then out of the series.

Favorite New Animated Halloween Props for 2015

Halloween is fast approaching and is just 7 weekends away! Our local Halloween Horror Night in Orlando is set to start this weekend and that got me thinking about how much I love Halloween and all of the props.

So I went to several Halloween stores to check out the latest Halloween props and here are some of my favorites. I wish I had the freedom to set the stage to scare people with these but that is the limitation of city living.

Anyways here are a few I found to be unique and creeping.

Creepy Rising Animated Doll
This Annabell like doll seems innocent enough, because innocent looking dolls have cracked heads and their eyes light up. Then her pleasant conversation turns creepy as her voice changes from a child like to a demons. Oh the fun you'll have watch kids get scared on the front porch!

Costume Trends for Halloween 2013

It may be in the midst of summer, but with school starting in some places, football season around the corner, that can only mean Halloween is soon to follow. So as the sun sets earlier and trips to the pool decrease, it’s time to start thinking about Halloween Costumes for 2013.

Movies tend to be the big trendsetter for Halloween costumes, especially summer blockbusters, and this year is no exception.

Despicable Me 2Despicable Me 2, this summer's most popular animated movie, was all over the place this summer and so were the Minions. From cereal boxes to fast food toys, these little yellow characters not only act silly and pull pranks on each other but they are fun and make you laugh. While Felonious, Agnes, Edith, Margo and Gru are great characters for family costumes, expect gangs of Minions of all ages to be knocking at your door.

Other animated films that will impact the under 10 crowd are Mike and Sulley of Monster's University, good and bad Smurfs including Smurfette from Smurfs 2 and we expect to little guys that liked Cars to consider Planes costumes.

Super Heroes
It isn't Summer without a Super Hero movie but with Iron Man having been around for 3 movies, Superman although the movie wasn't as popular as popular offers a new and fresh costume for Halloween. While Avengers, Thor and Batman costumes will still be popular, the only fresh take we have seen is the Retro Batman, Robin and Batgirl suits from the 60's TV show.

Duck Dynasty
You've seen them on tv and now you can be them for Halloween! The Duck Dynasty crew has licensed Halloween costumes and all you need to do is add a duck call, a country twang and lines from the show and you'll be ready an entertaining Halloween.

Available Duck Dynasty costumes are Si and Willie plus they also have accessories including the Beard and Bandana.

Another TV influence could be Sharknado
Sharknado is the campy Shark attack movie that could influence some early Halloween parties by asking guests to come as their favorite Shark or Sharknado victim. While an odd theme, it could increase interest for Shark costumes this year.

Music Influences Lacking So Far...
In the past few years music has been has been a big influence of Halloween costumes. Think Nikki Minaj, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. However this year has been lacking for break through iconic artists with unique looks that inspire costumes. You might be seeing a few Mackelmores in Thrift Shop getups (aka hipsters) walking down the street and Lady Gaga's Artpop cover which looks like The Joker from Batman on some faces, but don't expect a musical trend as of right now.

Easy Last Minute Super Bowl Balloon Decorations

The Super Bowl is just a few hours away need some quick decorations that the kids can help with?

These Super Bowl balloon decorations took me took me about 20 minutes.

Step 1 - Find Team or Super Bowl Logos and copy to word document
Step 2 - Resize so you get 3 or 4 logos per sheet and print out several pages
Step 3 - Cut out - I used an exacto knife, but you can also use scirrors
Step 4 - Blow up Team color balloons or generic colors like black or white
Step 5 - Tape Balloons around the room to decorate
Step 6 - Then Attach Logos to Balloons with tape or glue stick.

This is easy and fast and if you have kids it allows them to help out without being in the way.

Celebrate with Your Own Mardi Gras Party!

Mardi Gras is just three weeks away and if you are one who celebrates Mardi Gras now is the time to get planning for the big event.

While most people want to celebrate Mardi Gras on "Fat Tuesday," it poses a problem as many of us have to work on Wednesday. The solution is host your Mardi Gras event on Saturday, February the 9th, which is basically a week and half away.

We've got ideas to help you put together your Mardi Gras event.

1. First Determine Just How Mardi Gras will your party be?
Beads, Masks, Costumes? Do guests need to dress for the event or will you have all the accessories there? Will this be a dinner event or snacks and drinking?

2. Invite - Once you nail down your Mardi Gras party, spread the word via Facebook invites, evites, or emails should do the trick and ask for an rsvp so you can plan.

3. Mardi Gras Food 
Bring the taste of New Orleans to your party with Gumbo, a Crawfish Boil or Jambalaya, then balance with other party snacks. Drinks can include Hurricanes, specialty mixed drinks and beer.

4. Party Decorations
You can go all out with giant sized masks, scene setters and even make a decorative float but I find it easy to decorate with purple, green and gold balloon, streamers and beads. By grouping colorful balloon around you can brighten up corners and make your room seem more festive. 5. Dress the Part 
As the Host or Hostess of a Mardi Gras party be sure to dress the part. Choose a festive Mardi Grass hat, vest, shoes or dress to welcome guests to your party, then have plenty of masks to provide intrigue. We have a variety of Mardi Gras masks and outfits and accessories for the occasion.

6. Beads, Beads, Beads
It's not a Mardi Gras party without beads, so pick up colorful Mardi Gras beads and either other them to guests when they come in, have guests do tasks to win them or plan for a bead toss at some point during the middle of your party. Beads come in all shapes and sizes, so we recommend getting a lot of basic beads but then be sure to have some unique beads that will act as conversation starters for your guests. Plus people always enjoy getting creative beads during the party and showing them off.

7. Mardi Gras Party Activities
There are to many Mardi Gras games but we have a few easy ideas. Do a Mardi Gras scavenger hurt and have guest search for beads, floats or various Mardi Gras items at your house or in the neighborhood (if you have placed them there. Set up a simple bead toss game that helps determine your mask or to win Mardi Gras accessories. We have various Mardi Gras trivia games on the site. Want something more to do host a murder mystery party at your party. Last idea if you have cardboard boxes and lots of decorations, streamers, paints, colorful paper and creative people consider a having teams create Mardi Gras floats, this would take a lot of prep time but you could group guests into teams and then after 30 - 45 minutes of building host your own your own Mardi Gras parade.

5 Super Bowl Party Tips for Success

The Super Bowl is just over a week away but if you are hosting a Super Bowl Party now is the time to get ready. Here are a few Super Bowl party tips to help you prepare for Super Bowl Sunday.

1. Make sure your invites are out and you have an idea of whether you expect 10, 20 or 30 people for the Super Bowl.

2. Multiple TVs - With large Super Bowl parties of 20 or more guests not everyone may fit in one room, however squeezing everyone in is sometimes part of the fun. Solution: Have two or three tvs ready to go so guests can watch in comfort and these work great just in case young children would rather watch something else.

3. Plan Food and Beverage Responsibilities
Let guests know if you are supplying the food, drinks or if they are expected to bring something. In many cases, I've found that the host makes a few key items like wings, chili or burgers and they ask friends to bring  side items and snacks to be shared. The same goes with drinks, the host gets beer and / or mixers and then if guests want a special drink they can bring it themselves.

If you have a last minute Super Bowl Party, no worries, you can always order pizza, wings and ask guests to byob.

4. Party Supplies and Decorations

A Dinner Dare turns into a Fun New Christmas Game Idea for Kids

Recently at a networking event, the people at my table ask what I did and I said I run a Party Games web site. Then they said you think up party games? I said yes.

Then cam e the challenge can you come up with a party game using things on this table? Well I looked around and thought, hmm and then I said lets select three items and I will have a game for you by the next meeting.

The items from that were selected for this Party Game challenge were a:
1. Dinner Plate
2. Drinking Straw
3. Paper

Well a week went by and I kind of ignored my commitment, but then I saw a straw and when I was out to eat and started thinking how could I make a party game from a these three items.

I was a little stump, by then it hit me while watching a Christmas Holiday Special. Snowflakes.

Yes Snowflakes were the key to making a Christmas party game for kids.

And then the next challenge, how do you tie the straw and plate into a party game that is both fun and challenging. So I had to basically, make paper snowflakes, grab a straw and get a dinner plate and lay them out.

Once I did that it came to me, you must use the straw to get the snowflakes on the plate. This Christmas party game seemed simple and in my mind was easy. You just blow on the snowflakes, they fly up and land on the plate. Easy!

Then I took my idea and tested it, I blew on the snowflakes and they went under the rim of the plate. I used the straw to blow under the snowflake in order and the snowflake still didn't lift the snowflake.

Hmm, so far I had Christmas party game but it I couldn't make it work and therefore it wouldn't be any fun to play. Would this challenge end in a lame game or failure?

After some careful thought and a few test runs I hit upon how you could get the snowflake up and try to land it on the plate. Plus with snowflakes fluttering in many directions, it now became interesting and silly too. The game was coming together.

The next step was to create the rules and how to play instructions for this new Christmas party game and name it. The name was easy Snowflakes on a Plate, which is the objective of the game. The rules came easy to plus we came us with variations of the game based on whether you play as an individual or as teams.

Make Your House Decorations the Life of the Holiday Party

You've seen videos of houses that set the Christmas lights to music and it looks amazing, but how can the average person set this up so that their house is part of the Christmas Party?

Well we stumbled across 2 Options
GE Wireless Light and Sounds of Christmas which is a synchronized light and sound system.

This systems comes with 44 Christmas tracks and plays in three modes light show, unison and lights steady on. Hmm as a bonus there are some Halloween tracks to so you can use it for another holiday.

I love the idea of the music and lights but I wish it could be connect to any song you want rather than holiday songs. The set up seems easy, but we haven't seen a review. The list price is $299, but Christmas Light system is currently (Today 12/4/12) on sale for under $170 and when I was on the site there was a promotional code to get shipping for $1.99. Please note I cannot guarantee pricing, discounts or quantity available.

The other outdoor Christmas Light musical system (can work indoors too) is Mr. Christmas Lights and Sounds of Christmas.

Mr. Christmas offers two different products. The Mr. Christmas Lights and Sounds of Christmas runs around $130 plus shipping and offers a main controller and six outlets which can each handle 1,200 lights and is not wireless. It offers 20 holiday songs from which to choose from.

This model is cheaper but you'll need to string all your lights to a central for this one which could be a bit of a headache. Amazon had 44 reviews with an average rating of 4 stars, so most users are happy with their purchase.

The Mr. Christmas Wireless Christmas Light system appears to be the GE system. I checked all the specs and they match. Amazon prices ranged from $170 - $180 plus shipping. The reviews for this model and disappointing compare to the $130 version, but most reviews are from 2 - 3 years ago, so things may have changes and it appears that replacement parts are now available where before it seemed to be an issue.

We like the idea of adding music to your Christmas lights and it sounds like it would be great during a party, but after reading the reviews consider whether going wireless is worth it as you might be able to save money and put on a holiday show for less.

Martha Stewart is Ruining Christmas Parties

I love Martha Stewart and her crafts, cooking, decoration tips and her show, but Martha Stewart is ruining Christmas parties!

There I said it and here is why.

There was a time when people would host a Holiday or Christmas party, invite guests, decorate house, make finger foods and offer holiday beverages. However with Martha Stewart it just seems that the bar is raised to perfection that anything else is a failure.

1. First Martha Stewart claim is "It's Easy"
Almost everything Martha does on the show is easy or simple. Well of course it is when, you a. have a staff to prep things for you and b. don't have a house full of kids that live in the house.

2. Nature is Free and at Your Door Step
In a recent centerpiece idea, it was noted that you just need to walk outside and collect branches about this big. Well I well out to find branches and I couldn't really find any, (I guess my neighbors yard workers are very good.) Overall it took me going to two parks, being barked at by several dogs and stepping into a big puddle just to 20 sticks that would work. Yes, it was free but no fun to collect.

3. Her Finished Product Always Look Amazing
Often Martha Stewart will take a the finished product and place it on a table that is set perfectly for this item. The plates, the napkin holders and accent pieces all work, but when I placed my craft project on my table it didn't look like the picture at all.

My BIGGEST problem is after I invest all the time and effort, which recently was able 4 hours for a centerpiece project, it killed my mood, spirit and made me feel like a failure.

After doing the project and hoping for a Martha Stewart moment, ta-da "It's Beautiful" my mood and attitude  sunk because I focused so much on making it that it carried over into making the food.

I just wasn't having fun making the food and socializing in the kitchen, then I had to remind myself that the centerpiece isn't the reason for the food or the joy of Holiday Party and that Martha Stewart doesn't rule my happiness and maybe, just maybe next time...

I need to purchase a centerpiece, except that I don't have to be perfect or ask the kids or guests to make something, so I can enjoy being the Happy Hostess at my party.

1. Beverage Tasting Holiday Party
Skip the White Elephant Party and ask each guest to bring a unique beer or wine to the holiday party. Once most of the guests arrive, let each guest introduce why they selected their beer or wine, then label each beverage with a number. Then give each guest a slip of paper and ask them to write down their favorite beer or wine by the end of the night and place in the box. And that person wins - A Prize, Prestige or all the left over beer.

2. Charity Wish Party
Be social, be merry and be giving. Instead of spending money on a gift ask guests to do to things; a. Place the amount they would spend in the jar or container, b. Submit a charity they would like the money to be donated. This type of party is a great way to spread joy during the holiday season.

3. Dress as....
Fill in the Blank... Ask guest to Dress as Elves, Santa, Reindeer or their favorite Holiday Cartoon Character.

4. Feeling Lucky Christmas Party
Yes, this is the Scratch off Lotto themed party, where you ask guests to purchase a specific dollar amount of lottery scratch off tickets and each set is placed into the gift pile. Then randomly determine who gets to go first, scratch and see if they got lucky or not! Play until everyone has scratched away.

5. Random Acts of Kindness Party
Want to through people off their game and send guests off on scavenger type adventure. This works best if you live in town and don't have to drive. Ask everyone to have $10 for a New Holiday Tradition. Then once all the guests arrive, you divide them into teams of 3 - 6 people (or at least 3 - 5 teams and you'll want a smart phone for each team) and let them know that the $10 dollars they have must be used to record a random act of kindness for a stranger.

Estimate about 10 minutes per random act, an hour is usually enough time to complete the mission. However, teams cannot repeat random acts, only one member per team can do a type of act. Ask guests to take pictures and when they return share the stories.

Hidden Danger of The Doughnut Tree Game, What Parade's Pippa Middleton Article Didn't Tell You

I enjoy getting the Sunday paper. It's such a great way to start the day, relax with coffee, clip coupons or check out sales and plan out my week, but today the cover of Parade caught my eye and not in a good way. When they had a wonderful picture of Pippa Middleton and a child playing the game doughnuts on a string or as they call it "The Doughnut Tree". See pics below:

Just seeing the picture, reminded my of an email I received many years ago warning about the chocking hazard of the game "Doughnuts on a String" as children race to be the first person to finish a doughnut.

Email noted that the angle of the head and race to consume  doughnut as fast as possible is a dangerous combination that increases the risk of choking.

While I am not a fan of the Doughnut Tree game, I don't mind that they list how to play "The Doughnut Tree" game in the magazine.

The Problem I have with it is:
 They FAILED to Mention or even warn they this could be a CHOKING HAZARD!

While this game has been played at many parties over the years without any problems, it is one game that does have a history of causing choking. My concern is that many Parade readers will see this and think, "What a fun idea, let's do this game for Halloween," without being aware of the danger.

At the least Parade should have included a warning for the The Doughnut Tree like; "Not recommend for children under 5 years old as the game may present a choking hazard. Parent / Adult supervision required."

And since they didn't I just did.

After years of writing and creating party games for kids, it is never a good thing to mix young children like the one shown in the picture in a game situation where you may be encouraged to eat food at a strange angle as fast as he or she can to win a contest. Just eating a doughnut with your hands is hard enough, why make it a race that just increases the risk of choking.

At Party Game Ideas, we know party games can be a challenge and risks are involved however we try to place a warning or note concerns to the games so the user can decide whether the party game might be right for them.

While I do give Parade Magazine a Thumbs Up for the Pippa Middleton interview, they get a Thumbs Down for not properly informing their audience of the Real Dangers of the Doughnut Tree game.

Halloween Bowling - Be Creative for Halloween Fun

I don't know how I come up with these game ideas, but while replacing the paper towels it hit me.

Paper Towels would make excellent bowling pins for Pumpkin Bowling, while I recommend using play bowling pins or 2 liter soda bottles this idea comes in handy if you don't have those items. Plus, the paper towels will be used in the future so you are not wasting anything.

And to make sure you don't ruin the towels you can print out Halloween pumpkins faces from the internet and simply tape them on for game play. Then once the game is over just remove the Halloween faces and they are ready for cleaning up spills.

Yes, my ideas are sometimes strange like Jello Halloween Centerpieces or Candy Corn Lighting but it's fun and creative uses for things I already have around my house.

Don't Let Hurricane Sandy Ruin Your Halloween Party, Our Party Checklist Will Keep You on Track

It never hurts to be prepared, when hosting a Halloween or any event and based on the weather forecast for the Northeast it is time to have a Halloween Party Plan Checklist in case the weather turns frightful..

With Hurricane Sandy and a strong cold front, the Halloween weather forecast looks downright scary for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and maybe even Halloween!

With that being noted, if you live in the Northeast and have outdoor Halloween events and activities planned, you need to be prepared with alternative Halloween games and party activities.

Halloween Party Bad Weather Checklist
1. If you need to move activities inside, is there room for everyone?
While not everyone can fit in 1 room, consider multiple areas and determine whether your garage or basement could work to handle overflow. Garages often provide space, but if you plan on using it, now is the time to plan a Saturday clean up.

If you still don't have enough space, then consider a location back up plan. Talk over options with friends and be ready to take action and announce changes so that everyone gets notified via text or phone call hours in advance of your event. While it is not recommended for children's parties, last minute changes tend to be ok for teenager Halloween parties.

2. Should You Change the Date of your Halloween Event?
If the weather turns really nasty where power outages are reported in your area and / or guests may be in danger due to flash floods then you need to consider cancelling or postponing moving your Halloween party. There is no reason to put guests in danger.

3. Prepare Decorations, Party Supplies & Food
Since weather can be hit or miss (ie if #HurricaneSandy heads out to the Atlantic rather than towards land) and storm paths can often change course, place and box decorations, party supplies and food so it is ready to go outside if the weather is good or inside if bad. Basically, you want everything together and organized so you can quickly set up indoors or outdoors if needed.

4. Clean!
Yep, when you thought everyone would be outside there was no concern over cleaning the house. However with a small army of zombies, witches and superheros in your house, it is time to get prepared and dust, vacuum and sweep. Also it is does rain, make sure you have one or more door mats ready to make the sure the water and mud from outside doesn't end up tracked all over your house.

5. Halloween Activities and Party Games, What Now?
If you were planning a Pumpkin Hunt, Halloween Scavenger Hunt or outdoor game, can you move it inside? And do you have the room to play it? You'll have to be creative to come up with teen Halloween games, but for younger kids you can often adapt outdoor Halloween games indoor or replace them with printable games  and simple challenges. Spooky Halloween House Decorations Pictures from Our Neighborhood

Halloween is a week away and last night I was able to head out and one of my communities favorite neighborhoods to see what they are doing for Halloween.

While not every house decorates fro Halloween there are a few that really do wonderful Halloween decorations. The only down side to walking and taking pictures at sunset is that you can only visit a few house to take good pictures while walking.

What I really enjoy about Halloween house decorations is that while you can admire large, elaborate displays , sometimes simple items with jsut a few key accents look wonderful in a yard or entryway.

These homes have created a wonderful Halloween displays in our neighborhood and I am grateful, because I can't put up Halloween decorations.
