Nursery Rhymes are a popular Baby Shower Theme that stands the test of time and brings back memories of childhood and being a mother.
Nursery Rhymes are not only entertaining for the new baby, but mom and dad get to share in the fun of storytelling.
If you are planning a Nursery Rhyme Baby Shower you'll need games and activities and we have come up with a few just for Nursery Rhyme Showers.
Nursery Rhyme, What's the Next Line Game
Divide your group into teams and then one person from Team 1 is given the first 2 or 3 lines a of a Children's Nursery Rhyme and must correctly complete the next line of the nursery rhyme. If they get the next line correct, the team gets 1 point, if they get it wrong they get no points. Then the player from Team 2 has an option a.) They can try to complete the next line of the Nursery Rhyme or b.) Ask for a New Nursery Rhyme.
Play until each player has gone at least once or until you go through all your Nursery Rhymes. We recommend you have 15 - 20 ready for this game.
Nursery Rhyme Quiz
This printable quiz test your knowledge of Nursery Rhymes and comes in two versions a standard and hard versions. Know you can test your guests knowledge of classic rhymes by filling in the answer.
If your not a fan of Filling in the Blank Quizes then provide users with the answers but also include 5 additional answers to make it more interesting. That way those guests who are great test takers can't just logically figure out all the answers by which ones are left.
Another Bonus is that 1 version of this game can be personalized just for your event.
Is It a Nursery Rhyme?
You may know "Old Mother Hubbard," "London Bridge is Falling Down" and "Little Tommy Tucker," but do you know whether "Monday's Child," "Coal from the Cupboard," and "Wind the Bobbin Up" are Nursery Rhymes?
Coal from the Cupboard is not but the other two are. For this Baby Shower game create a list of 20 - 25 nursery rhymes and ask guest to determine whether it is or isn't a Nursery Rhyme. Score 1 point for each correct answer and in case of a tie ask a question concerning the date a specific Rhyme was written. It's always interesting to see who thought your made up Nursery Rhyme was real and the best way to fool guests is to use words that we don't use much today.
Create Your Own Mad Lib Nursery Rhymes
Not into Baby Shower games but want a fun social activity then Mad Libs are a alternative. Guest will have fun giving answers to questions while not having a clue how their answer will be used.
Each answer then gets used as a unique and very strange nursery rhyme, that should be saved for the shower scrapbook.
Once the answers are placed in the rhyme then you can hand out the Mad Libs and have guests read them aloud.
Nursery Rhyme Charades or Pictionary
Gather together a list of Nursery Rhymes and place one rhyme per slip of paper and place in a bowl. Divide up the shower guests into groups and then have players pull out a slip and either act out the nursery rhyme or draw it. (Each team gets 30 seconds) 1 point for every correct play, most points wins. We recommend 20 to 30 different ryhmes.
Nursery Rhyme Bingo
Yes you've heard of Baby Shower Bingo well this is the same thing but with a Nursery Rhyme theme. Fun for all ages, easy to play and perfect for your shower theme.
Just purchase, add a personalized message, print out the Bingo cards and get ready to play. Play standard Bingo, four corners or whatever you want. Pennies, M&M's or other small items can be used for markers.
As you can see, you can do a lot of different games and activities during a Nursery Rhyme Baby Shower and we didn't even touch on Word Finds and Scrambles which can be entertaining shower games. I hope this helps you get started planning your baby shower games and a very special event.
I did find Humpty Dumpty Baby Shower Party Supplies and Mother Goose printable partyware to match this theme.
